Julie Hereish


Julie Hereish studied the cello with Denis Brott at the Montreal Conservatory of Music, with Johanne Perron and Carole Sirois at the Faculty of Music of the University of Montreal, and with Stefan Kropfitsch at the University of Music and performing arts, Vienna. She also attended summer programmes at the Domaine Forget, the Orford Arts Centre, the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Germany, and the Vienna Music Seminar. Winner of the 2014 Zara Nelsova Memorial Award and the 2011 Peter Mendell Award, Julie received First Prize at the concerto competition of the University of Montreal Symphony Orchestra, at the Concours Sinfonia de Lanaudière and at the Canada Music Competition in solo and in chamber music. Along with pianist Michel-Alexandre Broekaert, she founded the Duo Arietis, which went on tour with les Jeunesses Musicales du Canada in the fall of 2013. She is also a member of the Trio Lajoie, with whom she did a Debut Atlantic tour of the Maritimes in the fall of 2014. Since 2012, Julie has been playing regularly as a supernumerary cellist with Les Violons du Roy. She is the new assistant principal cello of the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec.
